New IRS Guidelines for Ministers

Salem Presbytery wants you to be aware of the IRS Minister Audit Technique Guide, released June 30, 2009, that covers the following topics:  Overview of Issues Who Qualifies for Special Tax Treatment as a Minister Income Issues -Income to be reported -Gift or Compensation for Services -The Parsonage Allowance -Retired Ministers -Members of the Religious Orders and Vow of Poverty Business Expenses -Determination of Deductible Expenses where some Income is Tax Exempt Self-Employment Tax: Exemption Computing Self-Employment Tax Employee VS. NEW FORM: Committee Meeting Expense Voucher

Committees will need to complete the NEW Committee Meeting Expense Voucher, updated 2/16/2009 and discontinue use of the old form. You can download and print the new form online by clicking here (Resources >Forms), or pick up some of the gold forms at the Presbytery office in the workroom.


New changes to 403(b) plans effective January 1, 2009

A 403(b) tax-sheltered annuity (TSA) plan is a retirement plan offered to tax-exempt organizations, including churches. Any organization with a 403(b) plan must establish a written plan by January 1, 2009.
